Who said paris is a moveable feast

After the shootings at Charlie Hebdo offices in January, Voltaire's Treatise on Tolerance saw a similar surge in popularity. The English title of Hemingway's memoir comes from this quote: "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself. But if it was bad, the emptiness filled up by itself. If it was good you could only fill it by finding something better. We always returned to it no matter who we were or how it was changed or with what difficulties, or ease, it could be reached.

Paris was always worth it and you received return for whatever you brought to it. But this is how Paris was in the early days when we were very poor and very happy. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life.

This was the only truly sad time in Paris because it was unnatural. But some contrarian Parisians do not appreciate this Hemingway-inspired form of online activism.

In truth, many residents said the city felt more empty than usual these days. This weekend, many of the city's famous cafes appeared sparsely populated. But across the street from the Bataclan Theater on Saturday night, by the light of flickering candles, several dozen Parisians braved the wind and rain to gather around an upright piano.

Soon after, they performed a full-throated rendition of Leonard Cohen's moody ballad "Hallelujah.
