Principals at schools vary, but I was able to get pretty awesome Principals at both of the schools I worked at. Everyone's experience differs, but if you do your research you can find a great school to work at. Observations are subjective and can be very biased. Pros Competitive Salaries. Cons Unfair Observation System. Great experience Learnd some important information about the sport and inspiring to get the best out of people.
We all keep learning and I learned a lot. The sped caseloads are capped but there is a significant amount of paperwork that must be done for each child. The pay is decent but maintaining a work-life balance can be difficult. Pros Great staff, time to collaborate with others. Cons Impact, reopening plans have been a mess.

The people I worked with were intelligent, hard-working, and dedicated to the students and families. If only there was enough time in the work day for that dedication to thrive.
Pros Good people, good pay. Cons Long hours, hectic schedule, too many priorities. They pay well, but you have no work life balance. You are just another number to DCPS and you are replaceable. Pros Pay. Cons Everything. Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No.
Education is constantly under revision. Its very difficult for newer educators and not consistent. Working for DCPS has been rewarding. I love teaching students and adults. The school's role in education is inconsistent. The focus is less of educating students. Pros Ability to positively impact children. Cons Policies dont always make sense. The kids make it worthwhile but the management is not the best.
The policies are outdated and they could care less about teachers. Emails are crazy and so are the principals if you end up in the wrong school. The principals are not honest and they will do whatever the central office superintendents tell them to do even if it is not in the best interest of students, families, and employees.
Pros Helping Students. Cons Killing yourself with stress. The team employees felt like family. We work really well together.
There was always help if someone needed it. The team felt like family because we were all able to work well together, but the senior management above manager were not very good. They were too manipulative and did not want to embrace the closeness that we had and didn't think that we needed that to get through a day.
There was no problem jumping in to help someone if for some reason they fell behind on something, but senior management felt like they should just stay until the work was done instead of letting someone help. Pros The great comradery. Cons The micromanagement from senior management. Working with DCPS is an amazing experience. Plenty of opportunities for growing as long as you intentionally complete education requirements. The students are the best part.
